| THE RISK OF THE OCCURRENCE OF VIOLENCE AND THE LEVEL OF PSYCHOPATHY IN IMPRISONED PERSONS | |
|
Marlena AUGUSTYNIUK Faculty of Psychiatry, Collegium Medicum of Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland Streszczenie In this report an attempt is made to analyse the risk of aggressive criminal behaviour by relating this to psychopathy. We review the most recent literature pertaining to the evolution of the risk evaluation methods and their measures. Additionally, the various concepts of the risk factors of violence are presented. Particular attention is paid to the structure of the HCR-20. So far, most studies of this domain have shown a significant relationship between psychopathy and the risk factors of violence. This research, which analyses the risk of aggressive criminal behaviour in 53 adult male alcoholics in custody in Krakow-Podgórze, demonstrates similar findings. It seems that high scores for psychopathy are accompanied by higher risk factors. It was shown that the affective and lifestyle characteristics of psychopaths were basically responsible for the risk level. Surprisingly, it was shown that aggressiveness as measured by the self-reporting methods had no relation to the psychopathy level and intensity of risk. The study demonstrates the usefulness of structured or semi-structured methods in predicting violence – especially in clinical and forensic settings. Słowa kluczowe Aggression; Psychopathy; Risk factors. |
