Streszczenie
The article describes the interplay of the family system with domestic violence from the perspective of the systems understanding of the family. It attempts to show the way in which the proper functions and tasks of the family, which enable the fulfilment of the needs of family members and ensure their growth and development, are destroyed by acts of violence done to them. The functioning of the family system in cases of domestic violence is discussed with reference to three major structural fields: the interaction rules and patterns prevailing within the bounds of the family, stressors in the family system and intra-partner violence. The latter, for which Jerzy Mellibruda’s concept of Psychological Mechanisms of Dependence (PMD) is taken as a central reference point, is explored through the idea of mechanisms of dependence maintained between perpetrators and victims in relationships of violence.
