Four elements play important role in the quality management of any laboratory: staff, equipment, methods and organisation. Well known series of standards, ISO 9000 and the EN 45001, combined with others, more suited to specific aspects of forensic investigations may be adopted for building quality assurance systems in forensic laboratories. Internationally agreed standards of education and training for forensic experts, comparable to quality management system, would guarantee a minimum quality level for the experts from different laboratories and improve their work.
